The last morning that we were in the motel, the factory called to say it would take a couple hours longer that day than anticipated, so at check out time, we left the motel and drove to a Goshen city park to spend the time before picking up the 5th wheel.
By 5pm we had picked up the RV and were on our way. Once into Illinois, (with this being Friday of Labor Day Weekend) there were no campgrounds with available spaces to be had, so we spent the night in a WalMart Parking lot….too hot, noisy, not something I want to repeat any time soon!
In Iowa, near Adair, we found this windmill blade erected as a sculpture at the I-80 reststop…really shows perspective as to the size of these things! Remember, it takes 3 blades per windmill.
A nice touch outside were ladies serving cookies and coffee for a donation. This dedicated group does this daily through the summer as a service to the weary travelers and as a fund raiser for the local food bank. Notice the design of the picnic shelters includes the resemblance to an old style windmill blade.
Although we saw some green fields, more often than not we were seeing brown fields showing the result of the midwest’s summer drought.
We spent the night in Kansas at a beautiful C.O.E. park on Wilson Lake.
These were taken on a walk through the campground the following morning.
One of the reasons we went through Kansas was to visit good friends, Lynn and Allura Hamm.
The following night was spent in the Fort Supply C.O.E. in northern Oklahoma.
